Module 1 - Intensive Review of the Basics

In the introductory module, we will work intensively and systematically of the elements of Greek, meaning vocabulary, morphology, and syntax, while reading lightly in Plato, Republic Book 1. In these weeks, we will essentially review the first 1.5 years of Greek with a view to gaining the sort of command one needs to teach it. Depending on your level of preparation, this could be intense. 5-6 weeks
For the Core Vocabulary List, we will use the list of the 80% most frequent Greek words compiled by teachers at LSU. Download here:

Module 2 - Reading Plato

In this module we will work on developing ease and fluency in our reading of Plato. We will quickly accelerate the pace; not translate every word; work on stylistics and more advanced syntactical features; and start some practice in reading at sight. 3-4 weeks
Week 6 (10/9)

Note that Fall break intervenes here - possible that we may take a break this week - possible that there may be a test - or we may go ahead with the Republic reading - it will depend on our progress and your stress level

1. Vocabulary - memorize all new vocabulary from the frequent vocabulary in Rep. Book 1 list (to be provided)

2. Review forms and principal parts - try to isolate what is still not firm for you and review that - keep studying core vocabulary as well

3. Reading: Plato, Republic 336a11-339a4

Module 3 - Active Greek

In this final module, we will concentrate on composition exercises and developing active command of Greek vocabulary, morphology, and syntax even while we complete our reading of Republic Book 1 and work in-class on readings at sight. [We may build in to this component some more systematic review of practical linguistics.] 3-4 weeks
