About the course: In this course, we use intensive review of vocabulary, morphology, and syntax, pragmatics of historical linguistics, exercises in  Greek composition, study of prose stylistics, and practice with readings at sight to insure a firm foundation in ancient Greek for those just entering graduate school or otherwise needing a graduate-level review. The course is suitable for first-year graduate students in Classical Studies; or students in ancillary disciplines with advanced Greek but an unsure footing.

About the instructor: William A. Johnson is Professor of Classical Studies at Duke, with a range of specialities that includes ancient books and readers, ancient music, literary papyrology, and early Greek historiography. He has authored or edited five books and about 40 articles and reviews. His latest volumes are The Essential Herodotus (Oxford 2016) and The Oxford Handbook to the Second Sophistic (Oxford 2017).
